Starting my practice online
To begin my yoga journey, I followed a guided session meant for beginners. The instructor is seated on the floor on a yoga mat in a medium sized room enshrouded in neutral colors. In the video the instructor is alone in the studio and I decided to also do the yoga in a quiet, secluded room. I used a yoga mat and a medium sized pillow for support and began the class.
The instructor begins with her qualifications (personal training, pilates, yoga certification) and explains how the yoga we will do is going to be light/gentle and at whatever flow we feel is optimal. We begin sitting with our legs crossed and controlling our breathing with a focus on centering our aura. The instructor discusses setting goals for the yoga as well as explains about mantras and how they can help to stay centered/focused throughout the yoga. I decided to make my mantra simply “relax”.
When we begin the actual yoga, I find the instructors voice to be both very soothing yet informative and comforting. She often assures us that if anything begins to feel uncomfortable, feel free to adjust the positions so that you’re not in discomfort. The positions that specifically stuck out to me were the sun salutations and the downward facing dog positions. While I struggled with some of the poses, I enjoyed the class and can definitely see myself taking another one similar to its flow and speed/difficulty.
